Three years are ending for the Umbrella Sky displays in Elmhurst, all three of them. The Community Bank of Elmhurst has been the presenting sponsor for the display in City Centre/Schiller Court and we have had a perfect opportunity to view the display every day. Here are some of our observations:

The colors, which have changed several times, were always a hit…but some more than others. Pastels seemed to get the most comments.

The weather was not kind to the umbrellas on many occasions. In fact, due to storms, the only display location to keep umbrellas was City Centre.

Not one day went by when we didn’t witness photos being taken by residents and visitors.

We also saw brides and grooms, prom dates, kids of ALL ages, elegant dress and casual dress, pets, almost anything you can name.

The umbrellas had a rhythm all their own swaying above us hours on end.

It was always amazing to see the reactions of people who had never seen the umbrellas before. A look of wonder, fascination, curiosity was often the case.

Smiles…We saw a lot of those!

So, soon some holiday lights will appear in place of the umbrellas and they will be great too, but we will remember the umbrellas swinging in the breeze…and wait for their return…

Rain or Shine.
