So, why does everyone love fireworks (okay, some folks do not)? I think it relates to enjoying summer, when fireworks used to usually be done, and the pure joy that can come with the display of color and sound that fireworks provide.

Not so long ago fireworks were only seen around the 4th of July or some other national or local celebration. Today, however, fireworks are seen often and everywhere…including some significant displays in individual’s backyards! Illinois and Wisconsin are pretty strict on what is “allowed” by the average person. Indiana lets almost anything go and selling fireworks there is a big industry.

I did a little research and found that red, green and gold are the most common colors in fireworks. That’s primarily because these colors are easy to make and explode. Blue is the least common color. The most common shapes are the “peony” which explodes from the center and leaves little trail and the “willow” which is round and sends thin trails downward that fill the sky. There are others too with names like the “palm tree”, the “crossette” and the “brocade”.

So, if you find yourself watching fireworks sometime soon…keep count of the colors and shapes just to see if my research was correct.

Mainly, we love fireworks because they’re fun, usually associated with a festive event and they have always been a part of our lives. In this America250 year, fireworks reign!

Look up and marvel.
