As we enter the holiday season, we all have some level of expectation on how the festivities will go…sort of a “naughty/nice” vibe. Will it snow? Will this year’s tree be the best ever? Will the gathered family and friends be in good spirits? Will the gift lists match the wish lists? Will the red wine stain come out of the carpet? Will the hot snacks outlast the cold ones? Will the present exchange go smoothly? Will Aunt Millie remember her green bean dish? Will Aunt Millie realize that her actual green bean dish is still here from last year?

All really, really, important stuff.

Hopefully though we can have other types of expectations as well. Can we find some peace in this world that can last? Can there be more kindness and laughter in our lives? Can we dwell on our blessings rather than on what we may lack? Can we recognize that others will go without basic needs this holiday season? Can we respond to that with unmatched generosity? Can we better understand each other and respect different views than our own? Can we be thankful to God and to each other as we celebrate the holidays ahead with renewed energy, optimism and a positive spirit?

All really, really, vital stuff.

Happy Holidays.
